Uruguay’s footballers visited Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and tried cricket before their friendly against India, ABP Live reported in an update at 06:16 am IST on 5 October 2026.
ABP said the two-time World Cup winners explored the ground and played cricket ahead of the match. The fixture is on 6 October at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. ABP described it as another test against a South American side after India’s match with five-time World Cup winners Brazil.
Uruguay video names Araujo and Nunez
A video shared by Uruguay’s official account showed the players in Kolkata and at Eden Gardens. Ronald Araujo and Darwin Nunez appear in the clip. The account posted “Namaste, Kolkata” on 4 October 2026. ABP’s page credits the video to X, @Uruguay.
ABP said Uruguay’s previous appearance in the city was at the inaugural Nehru Cup in 1982, which the South American side won. The report said more than four decades later the team is back in Kolkata for another international assignment. It did not give a kick-off time, a predicted score, or a full squad list. Only Araujo and Nunez are named as players visible in the video.
The story is by Suyash Sahay. It says the Eden Gardens session showed the contrast between football’s place in Uruguay and cricket’s place in India, and that the visit came before the friendly. No attendance figure or ticket price for the 6 October match is stated in the article, so none is added.
