The Asian Games closing ceremony in Nagoya on Sunday, 4 October 2026, ended the 20th edition of the Games and sent the flag on to Doha. Olympic Council of Asia president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani declared the Games closed at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium under the theme “One Asia.”

Trap shooter Neeru Dhanda carried India’s flag. Olympics.com reported that the 27-year-old finished with two gold medals and a silver, one of four Indians with three medals, with Kumkum Mohod, Gulveer Singh and Vithya Ramraj. Dhanda became the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games gold in trap, took silver in the women’s team event with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer, and won mixed-team trap gold with Kynan Chenai. Indian shooting left with 15 medals: three gold, eight silver and four bronze.

What the Asian Games closing handed to Doha

India finished fourth with 85 medals: 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. India Today reported that China led for a 12th straight Games with 341 medals, including 169 gold; Japan was second with 269, including 83 gold; and South Korea third with 150, including 39 gold. India’s haul was 21 medals short of the 106, including 28 gold, won in Hangzhou. Athletics contributed 24 medals and archery five golds, with India winning medals in 21 sports.

“Tonight, as we lower the flag on Aichi-Nagoya 2026, we close these Games, but we raise the bar for Asian sport,” Al Thani said. The torch and flag from the 1951 New Delhi Games were presented to Qatar, and Olympic high-jump champion Mutaz Barshim received the OCA flag. Doha will host the Games for a second time, 24 years after 2006. India Today added that the OCA may look at moving the Games to 2031.
