Who led the India Mongolia defence meeting

The meeting was co-chaired by Dr Ishita Ganguli Tripathy, Joint Secretary in India’s Ministry of Defence, and Brigadier General Gansukh E, Deputy State Secretary of Defence of Mongolia. Dr Tripathy also met Major General Usukhbayar J, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces. According to the ministry, both sides praised the progress made in cooperation between the two forces and identified ways to deepen engagement and set a forward-looking agenda. Akashvani News and The Statesman carried the same details. Defence Watch noted that the official update did not announce any new procurement contract or arms deal, so the talks were about the existing partnership rather than new purchases. IANS quoted the ministry’s public relations directorate as saying both countries reaffirmed their long-standing bonds of friendship and mutual trust and their commitment to regional peace and security.

The Mongolian side underlined the value of cyber security training and knowledge-sharing for the strategic partnership. The ministry added that India and Mongolia share old historical, cultural and civilisational bonds, which give the modern partnership a strong base. Defence Watch noted that no new agreements were announced at the meeting. It said the visit showed the important role of shared faith and culture in bringing the two nations closer.

Why It Matters: Mongolia sits between Russia and China, and steady defence training links give India a trusted partner in a strategically important part of Asia.
