A teacher at Kalam Academy on Gopalpura Bypass in Jaipur assaulted a student, and the academy has expelled him, ETV Bharat reported on 5 October 2026.
Two classroom videos circulated on social media. ETV Bharat said teacher Praveen Dan Charan is seen slapping the student and kicking him out of the classroom. In a first video of 16 seconds he is seen slapping the student seven times. A second video, filmed by students on a mobile phone, shows him kicking the student out. The academy’s management expelled him after the incident.
Kalam Academy protest and police case
On Sunday, young people protested outside the academy and tried to block the road. ETV Bharat said some institute vehicles were vandalised. Police used mild force and detained several people, including Manoj Meena, described as a youth leader advocating for the unemployed. On the victim’s complaint, Mahesh Nagar police registered a case under assault provisions and the SC/ST Act.
Station House Officer Hawa Singh said an inquiry into the viral video confirmed it came from Kalam Academy. He said the accused teacher had not yet been detained. Police were investigating, including whether the operator had any role, and said action would also follow against people who disturbed order during the protest. The coaching centre’s operator apologised.
Student Vishnu said the class was discussing Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice when a student sent the teacher a note. Students said the note read: “Just as Gandhiji made a sacrifice for the country, the ‘Kalam family’ also demands a sacrifice from you.” Student Kartik, who was in the class, said the note was sent playfully, the student apologised, and the teacher kept hitting him. Kartik said a disagreement over a note could have been handled by talking, and that the student was humiliated in front of the class.
