India Pakistan cricket final in Nisshin will decide Asian Games gold

The India Pakistan cricket final is on Saturday, 3 October, at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Japan, with Asian Games gold in the balance. Published schedules put the T20 start at 10:00 IST, which is 1:30 pm local time. India are defending the title they won in Hangzhou. Pakistan are chasing a first gold.

How both sides reached the India Pakistan cricket final

As seeded teams, both went straight to the quarter-finals. India’s game against Afghanistan was washed out and India went through on seeding. In the semi-final India made 169 for 7 and bowled Sri Lanka out for 45 in 9.5 overs, a win by 124 runs. Pakistan’s quarter-final against Hong Kong, China was also abandoned. They then beat Bangladesh by six wickets in a game cut to 13 overs. Sahibzada Farhan leads Pakistan. Shreyas Iyer leads India, with Sanju Samson keeping wicket in the squad named for the final.

India’s listed squad also includes Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Vipraj Nigam, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh. The playing eleven was still to be confirmed at the toss.

Rain, and the rule if the final abandoned

Rain has already broken this cricket competition. Forecasts for Nisshin kept the morning chance under about 25 percent, then lifted it to around 51 percent by midday local time. There is no reserve day. If the India Pakistan cricket final cannot be completed, the two teams share gold. That is a change from Hangzhou 2023, when a washed-out final against Afghanistan gave India the medal on ranking. India’s women have already won their cricket gold at these Games.
