A Maatrubhumi censor viewing is under way this week, The Times of India reported on Sunday, 4 October 2026, quoting a Hindustan Times account of Salman Khan’s delayed war drama. People close to the project said a release date would be locked only after the Central Board of Film Certification finishes its screening.
The report quoted this line: “The film is in the process of being viewed by the CBFC this week. There have been no other changes. Salman Khan’s films have traditionally been family entertainers, so there is little reason to anticipate major objections from the censor board. Once passed, the team is looking at a Diwali or Christmas release.” The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and also stars Chitrangda Singh.

Why the Maatrubhumi censor viewing is being watched
Maatrubhumi was earlier called Battle of Galwan and is based on the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. The Times of India said the film reportedly went through reshoots after objections to its initial stance on China. Some reports had claimed the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had to clear a revised cut. The account quoted on Sunday said the opposite: “Maatrubhumi has never been halted by the government, and reports suggesting otherwise are mere speculation.”
Nothing on the release date has been officially confirmed. If the censor viewing passes without trouble, the makers are expected to announce a date. Until that announcement, Diwali and Christmas remain options described by people close to the film, not a locked calendar.
