Gold price today: bullion flat on 6 October after MCX slide to ₹1.49 lakh

By /

The gold price today was largely steady in early trade on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, a day after domestic futures fell about 1 per cent. On Monday, 5 October, gold for December delivery on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) slipped ₹1,020 to ₹1,49,370 per 10 grams as a stronger US dollar capped the metal’s recovery, PTI reported.

Monday’s move on MCX

Gold had already lost ₹2,887, or 2 per cent, in last week’s holiday-shortened trade to end at about ₹1.5 lakh per 10 grams. Domestic commodity markets were shut on Friday, 2 October, for Gandhi Jayanti.

Silver moved the other way. The Economic Times reported that MCX silver for December delivery rose ₹1,025 to ₹2,26,902 per kg in Monday’s opening trade, while December gold fell as much as ₹1,400 to ₹1,49,050 at the open.

“Gold prices have remained in a consolidating phase as a stronger US dollar and elevated bond yields continue to limit upside momentum,” said Kaveri More, commodity technical analyst at Choice Broking. She said the dollar index was hovering near an 18-month high of 102.37.

Gold price today in global markets

In overseas trade, Asianet Newsable reported on Tuesday morning that spot gold eased 0.3 per cent to $4,128.69 per ounce and silver fell 0.6 per cent to $60.67 per ounce, as a firm dollar and higher Treasury yields weighed on bullion.

US rate expectations remain the key driver. A weaker-than-expected US jobs report has cut the odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October, but markets still see a high chance of a hike in December. The Economic Times cited the CME FedWatch Tool putting that probability at 87 per cent.

City rates and levels to watch

Asianet Newsable’s indicative city table for 6 October put 24-carat gold at ₹1,50,178 per 10 grams in Delhi and ₹1,49,978 in Mumbai, with 22-carat at ₹1,37,563 and ₹1,37,380. Silver was quoted at ₹2,29,089 per kg in Delhi. Jewellery prices are higher once making charges and GST are added.

Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvi Finmart told The Economic Times that MCX December gold has support at ₹1,47,700 and could gain further only if it sustains above ₹1,52,000. For silver, he placed support at ₹2,18,800 and resistance at ₹2,31,000.
