Rajasthan heat hits 41C while dry weather continues

Rajasthan heat continued after the monsoon, with Pilani recording 41 degrees Celsius on Sunday, Bhaskar English reported.

The Jaipur report said daytime maximums in Jaisalmer, Churu, Ganganagar, Bikaner and Barmer were as much as 3 degrees above normal, and that western districts had intense heat. Eastern districts including Alwar, Tonk, Jaipur, Sikar and Karauli were also above normal. The Meteorological Department forecast dry weather and sunshine for the next week. Every district had sunshine in the previous 24 hours, and Pilani’s 41 degrees was the state’s highest maximum on Sunday.

Rajasthan heat readings and the week ahead

On Sunday, Ganganagar recorded 40.6, Churu 40.2, Bikaner 40.1, Jaisalmer 39.7, Barmer 39.1, Jodhpur 38.7, Tonk 38.6, Chittorgarh and Alwar 38.2, and Phalodi 38 degrees Celsius. Where daytime readings reached 38 degrees or more in the west, the report said hot surface winds blew. Weather experts attributed that to an anticyclone along the Rajasthan-Pakistan border, with daytime surface winds of 20 to 30 kilometres an hour.

Nights were cooler in Udaipur, Sirohi, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Pali, Tonk and Bhilwara, at 20 degrees or below. Mount Abu’s minimum was 14.6 degrees, the lowest, with a slight chill from late evening until morning.

The Jaipur Meteorological Centre forecast dry, sunny weather from the day of the report, with no significant temperature change. Daytime readings in most cities may stay between 30 and 42 degrees, and minimums between 18 and 25. Jaipur was 37.5 maximum and 26 minimum on Sunday, with dry weather expected for five days.
