Rajasthan Police began a three-day ‘Positive Behaviour in Policing’ training at IIHMR University in Jaipur on 15 October 2026. Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma opened it by lighting a lamp. 35 police personnel are taking part, and the course runs until 17 October, according to the state’s DIPR.

What the Positive Behaviour in Policing course teaches
The aim is to change the public’s view of police as harsh, and to build sensitivity, dialogue and trust, the release said. Officers are being trained in stages to work transparently and deal with people better. The sessions use case studies, role play, group discussion and self-reflection. The second day covers ‘policing under pressure’: handling stress, staying calm in emotional situations, setting priorities, and dealing with angry complainants. The third day, titled ‘from learning to positive policing’, turns the lessons into practice. It covers positive behaviour, effective communication, active listening and building trust with citizens, and ends with each participant and unit preparing an action plan. Participants will be asked to commit to changing their own behaviour. IANS, via Lokmat Times, and Dainik Bhaskar also reported the programme.

DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma's message to Rajasthan Police stations
Sharma told the officers to put themselves in the place of a person who comes to a police station with a complaint, and to treat that person the way they would want to be treated. He said sensitivity does not mean being soft. It means trying to get the victim relief through the legal process. Strictness towards criminals and sensitivity towards the public should be the core of policing, he said. He added that Rajasthan Police’s sensitive conduct and firm action against criminals are being discussed by police officers across the country, and that keeping this image is everyone’s responsibility.

Why the training matters now
The DGP said police work long hours, make quick decisions and face changing challenges, so clear communication, empathy and commitment to the law are essential. He noted that in an age of transparency, police conduct is watched by everyone. Former DGP Dr M K Devarajan called the course a platform for self-reflection and spoke about earlier police reform efforts. Apoorv Kumar, chairman of the Udai Pareek HRD Research Foundation, gave the welcome address, and university president Dr P R Sodani gave the vote of thanks. Sharma asked the participants to share their own experiences and success stories during the sessions. The release did not say when or how many more batches will be trained. The training is being run by the police and IIHMR University together, and the official release sets out its full three-day schedule.
