India take on two-time world champions Uruguay in a FIFA international friendly at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, with kick-off at 7.30 pm IST. The India vs Uruguay match closes a window in which Khalid Jamil’s side drew 1-1 with Panama in Bengaluru and lost 4-0 to Brazil at the same Kolkata ground on Saturday.
Jamil wants focus from the first minute
Speaking on Monday, Jamil said Uruguay were physically strong and tactically good, and that India would attack or defend depending on the situation. He said a lack of concentration had hurt his team against Brazil and asked his players to stay focused “from the first minute to the 90th”, India Today reported. He added that avoiding an early goal would be important.
India have had about 72 hours to recover since the Brazil game, while Uruguay have spent six days in Kolkata getting used to the conditions, the All India Football Federation said. Defender Akash Mishra said fatigue could not be an excuse. “Two are done, one more to go,” he said.
India vs Uruguay: players to watch
India’s attacking hopes rest largely on Ryan Williams, the Australian-born forward of Indian origin who scored against Panama, with support from Manvir Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad. Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made an important one-on-one save against Vinicius Junior on Saturday. PTI noted that India are ranked 138th in the world and Uruguay 20th.
Uruguay are rebuilding under new coach Diego Forlan after a group-stage exit at the 2026 World Cup and the departure of Marcelo Bielsa. Forlan’s spell began with a 3-1 defeat in Japan, followed by a win in South Korea. Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde is out with an ankle sprain, but Darwin Nunez, Ronald Araujo and Lucas Torreira are in the squad.
Where to watch
The match will be shown on the Sony Sports Network, Sony LIV and Sony Aath, the AIFF said. After this window, India travel to New Zealand, another World Cup side, in the next international break.
