Haryana dengue cases rise 58% in 20 days; Gurgaon tops the tally

Haryana dengue cases have jumped by 58 per cent in just 20 days. The state’s tally rose from 318 to 503 between 14 September and 4 October, according to the latest bulletin of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, The Times of India reported on Tuesday, 6 October 2026. Haryana recorded 23 new cases on 4 October, and no dengue death has been confirmed so far this year.

Haryana dengue cases: Gurgaon leads the district count

Gurgaon has the highest number of cases in the state at 65, followed by Panchkula with 58, Jhajjar with 50 and Rewari with 45. Gurgaon’s own count has risen only slowly, from 60 on 13 September to 63 on 30 September and 65 on 4 October.

Of the 503 cases reported so far, 291 came from government hospitals and 212 from private hospitals. Twenty-four patients were still in hospital, 13 in government facilities and 11 in private ones. Another 210 patients had been discharged, while 269 were treated as outpatients without admission.

The health department has tested 77,825 samples for dengue this year, including 1,351 on 30 September. The state has 27 dengue testing laboratories, with at least one in every district.

Still far below previous years

Despite the recent jump, this year’s total remains well below the levels of most recent years. Haryana reported 11,837 dengue cases in 2021, 8,997 in 2022, 8,083 in 2023, 6,469 in 2024 and 2,626 in 2025.

The department has also stepped up source reduction. Up to 31 August, officials had made 2.31 crore house visits, found mosquito larvae in 64,834 houses and issued 33,796 notices to premises where breeding was detected.

What doctors advise

Cases usually rise in the monsoon and post-monsoon months because the weather favours mosquito breeding, said Dr Aakashneel Bhattacharya, a consultant in infectious disease at Paras Health Gurgaon. He said the hospital alone has seen around 175 dengue cases this season.

He urged people to watch for high fever, headache, body ache, weakness, nausea and vomiting. “If someone is having a persistent fever, they must get themselves tested and not take any medication on their own,” he said, adding that patients should stay hydrated and rest.

To prevent breeding, residents are advised to clear stagnant water, use mosquito repellents and wear full-sleeved clothes.
