A Film City fire tore through the set of Colors TV’s reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga Season 2 in Mumbai on Monday, 5 October 2026. The set, built inside Prime Focus Studio at Film City in Goregaon, caught fire at around 4 pm while production was under way, according to the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA). Mid-day reported that no casualties were reported.
Early claims pointed to the Ramayana set
Visuals of a large plume of smoke spread quickly on social media, and some early posts claimed that the set of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, had caught fire. AICWA later clarified that the blaze was on the Pati Patni Aur Panga 2 set. Mid-day’s report said the fire also affected the set of MTV Hustle 5.
AICWA demands an FIR after the Film City fire
In a statement on X, AICWA demanded an FIR for negligence against the channel, the producer and the production house of the show. It also called for the resignation of the Managing Director of Film City.
The association alleged that the set had no fire safety arrangements. “Not a single fire safety measure was in place on this set. This is not an accident, it is criminal negligence,” AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta said.
Gupta has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a time-bound inquiry into how the fire started and why safety measures were missing. India Today’s report did not include a response from the channel or the production house.
Call for mandatory fire audits
AICWA said fires at Film City have happened year after year and that thousands of workers and artistes put themselves at risk on its sets every day. It urged the state government to make fire audits, on-set fire safety staff and firefighting equipment mandatory for every shoot inside the complex.
The workers’ body also asked that licences be cancelled for any production that fails to meet these requirements. It said it would keep pursuing the matter until safety measures for cine workers are put in place.
Film City, officially the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, hosts a large number of film, television and web shoots, which makes safety on its temporary sets a recurring concern for crews.
