Rajasthan panchayat election manifesto: BJP promises Rs 5 crore works per gram panchayat

The BJP’s Rajasthan panchayat election manifesto, the ‘Gram Vikas Sankalp Patra’, was released by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma in Jaipur on Sunday, PTI reported. It promises development works worth about Rs 5 crore in every gram panchayat over five years. Polls run from 22 October to 16 November.

Key promises in the Rajasthan panchayat election manifesto

India Today said the party will raise PM-Kisan aid to Rs 12,000 a year. PTI reported promises of daytime power for irrigation, piped drinking water for every rural home, health facilities in each panchayat, and wheat procurement at Rs 2,700 per quintal.

Roads, schools and women

The document pledges more than Rs 9,000 crore for 19,000 km of missing-link roads, 15,000 school buildings and 35,000 classrooms, PTI said. NDTV noted it is the first time the BJP has issued a state-level manifesto for panchayat polls.

All panchayats vote together

NDTV said this is the first time all panchayats in the state are voting together under a ‘One State, One Election’ approach. The Congress had strongly criticised the Chief Minister’s roadshows in the recent urban body polls, NDTV noted. Nominations for zila parishad and panchayat samiti seats close on 13 October, DIPR said.

Why It Matters: With all panchayats voting together for the first time, the manifesto sets the terms of a contest that will shape rural Rajasthan for five years.
