Jaipur Metro Phase 1C entered its underground stage on Saturday as Chief Secretary V Srinivas started the tunnel boring machine ‘Pratap’ at Galta Gate, the state’s information department (DIPR) said. The 3.80-km line will cost about Rs 1,511 crore.

The line will run from Badi Chaupar via Galta Gate to Transport Nagar, DIPR said. It includes about 3 km of underground track and a 0.80-km elevated section, with an underground station at Galta Gate. Dainik Bhaskar reported the tunnel will run about 17 metres below the road.

Deadlines set
Jaipur Metro chairman and managing director Vaibhav Galaria said the machine should reach Badi Chaupar by June-July 2027, after which the new tunnel will be linked to the existing Phase 1B. The project is due for completion by July 2028, according to DIPR.
Heritage and safety in focus
Srinivas told agencies to put worker safety first, follow traffic and dust-control norms and regularly review monitoring reports on nearby historic buildings, DIPR said. Work on Phase 1D, a 1.35-km elevated stretch from Mansarovar to Ajmer Road junction, is targeted for June 2027.
