Lovlina Borgohain wins Asian Games boxing gold; India bag three ring titles

Birthday gold never looked sweeter. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain blanked China’s Bao Ziyi 5–0 in the women’s 75kg final on Friday to win her first Asian Games title, becoming only the second Indian woman boxer after Mary Kom to strike Asiad gold. Hours later, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Pandhal also won finals, giving India three boxing golds at a single Asian Games for the first time.

From Hangzhou silver to Aichi gold

Lovlina had taken silver at Hangzhou 2023; in Nishio she controlled distance, countered cleanly and swept the cards against Bao. Parveen Hooda edged Olympic medallist Chen Nien-chin of Chinese Taipei 3–2 on a split decision in the women’s 65kg final — only the third Indian woman after Mary Kom and Lovlina to win Asiad boxing gold. Ankush Pandhal then beat South Korea’s Kim Minseong 4–0 in the men’s 80kg final with sharp counters, completing the treble.
