India Brunei trade ties were reviewed at the third meeting of the India-Brunei Darussalam Joint Trade Committee (JTC), the commerce ministry said on 14 October 2026. The talks focused on growing two-way trade, sorting out market access priorities and building channels for business-to-business links.

Who led the India Brunei trade talks
The meeting was co-chaired by Amit Verma, Joint Secretary in India’s Department of Commerce, and Dr May Fa’ezah Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy and Trade) in Brunei’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Officials from several ministries and organisations on both sides joined. DD News and IANS reported the same agenda. Brunei Darussalam is a member of ASEAN, the regional bloc with which India already has a trade-in-goods agreement.
Key Facts
- Meeting: 3rd India-Brunei Joint Trade Committee
- Indian co-chair: Joint Secretary Amit Verma
- Brunei co-chair: Dr May Fa’ezah Ahmad Ariffin
- Key sectors: pharma, healthcare, energy
- Next meeting: Brunei Darussalam
Market access for farm goods and pharmaceuticals
Both sides discussed helping India export more agricultural and animal products to Brunei Darussalam, which the ministry said would support Brunei’s food security and widen the trade mix. Pharmaceuticals, healthcare and energy were named as key areas for further work. On medicines and health care, the two sides looked at regulatory cooperation, procurement and healthcare services. The energy talks covered both traditional and newer partnerships to support industrial growth.

Tourism, trade fairs and the next round
The officials also stressed people-to-people ties through tourism and joint participation in trade fairs and exhibitions. They said targeted promotion events and reciprocal business delegations could reveal investment chances in manufacturing, infrastructure and services. Both sides agreed to keep regular contact between nodal agencies and working groups to track follow-up work. No trade targets or deals were announced, and the next JTC meeting will be held in Brunei Darussalam.
