ESTIC 2026: DRDO to lead semiconductor and next-gen chips session at Bharat Mandapam

ESTIC 2026, the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave, will run at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from 27 to 29 October, and DRDO will lead a themed session on semiconductors and next-gen chips, the defence ministry said. DRDO held a curtain-raiser for its participation in Bengaluru on 13 October.

Who speaks at the DRDO semiconductors session

The session will open with a keynote by the vice-president and managing director of Micron India, followed by talks from the CEOs of Bharat Semi and Netrasemi and the Director of IIT Madras. Topics include semiconductor fabrication, chip design, purpose-built AI system-on-chips, intelligence at the silicon edge and the changing microprocessor landscape. The ESTIC 2026 programme lists the session on the final day, 29 October, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The session is aimed at bringing chip designers, manufacturers and defence users into one conversation.

Bharat Mandapam conclave: who is behind it

The conclave is being organised jointly by 12 ministries and departments under the guidance of the Principal Scientific Adviser. The government describes it as a national initiative to advance Viksit Bharat 2047 and self-reliance through science and technology. DD News also reported DRDO’s role. Earlier editions of the conclave brought together scientists, industry leaders and policymakers to showcase research and set priorities for funding.

ESTIC 2026 DRDO stall: from quantum prototypes to scramjets

DRDO’s outreach stall will show technologies built in its labs. These include advanced communication systems, quantum technology prototypes, extreme-cold-weather clothing, the PRABALA full-body protector for women, passive and powered exoskeletons, portable hybrid energy systems, high-power pulse laser diodes and scramjet engine technology. The ministry said the aim is to link academia, industry and start-ups and to build a strong domestic chip base for critical uses.

Why It Matters: Chips sit at the heart of defence electronics and AI, and bringing DRDO, Micron and Indian chip start-ups on one stage shows where India's semiconductor push is heading.
