Jaipur police bust international fake call centre; 14 held in Apple scam

Jaipur police have busted an international fake call centre that allegedly posed as Apple support and cheated overseas victims, arresting 14 people in a Bindayaka-area raid. Officers seized computers, phones and documents that investigators say map a scripted social-engineering pipeline targeting English-speaking customers abroad across multiple shifts.

How the scam allegedly worked

Callers reportedly impersonated tech-support staff, claimed device security breaches, and coaxed victims into sharing remote access or making urgent payments. Police say the module covered foreign time zones with scripts and caller IDs designed to look legitimate on the victim’s screen, lowering suspicion until money had already moved.

Cyber cells have tracked similar rackets across Rajasthan and other states as Indian hubs remain attractive for low-cost VoIP operations. The Apple branding in the pitch made the fraud especially persuasive for users who already own the company’s devices and expect official-sounding alerts.

What investigators will probe next

Money trails, overseas mule accounts and the role of any larger organisers remain under scrutiny. Victims abroad may be asked to share bank records as police expand the charge sheet and seek cooperation through cyber channels. Reporting: IndMedia.

Cyber advisers said the module’s remote-assistance scripts mirror patterns across North India, where operators convince victims a “device lock” can be cleared only after sharing OTPs. Banks circulated fresh alerts against installing control apps on unknown callers’ instructions. Rajasthan’s cyber unit is mapping seized phones and SIMs against earlier FIRs; if charge-sheets name interstate handlers, prosecutors may add IT Act counts alongside cheating charges.

Public advisory

Genuine device makers do not demand remote control or sudden payments over cold calls — a line police want citizens to remember as more busts follow in Jaipur and other cities. Similar modules have been dismantled in Noida and Gurugram in recent years, suggesting a shifting geography of fraud hubs rather than a one-city problem. Police urged residents who receive cold calls about device locks to hang up and verify through official apps rather than shared screens.
