Russian strikes kill at least seven across Ukraine; Kyiv science academy building hit

A fresh wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine killed at least seven people and wounded more than 50 on Monday, according to Ukrainian officials cited by international news agencies. The attacks hit the capital, the central city of Dnipro and Kharkiv in the north-east, a day after strikes killed eight people in other regions.

Rare daytime strike in central Kyiv

In Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, a daytime strike damaged a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, killing a woman. Officials said a pharmaceutical company and petrol stations were also hit. Drone attacks in the wider Kyiv region killed four people and injured eight.

In Dnipro, a strike on an office centre killed three people and wounded at least 12. In Kharkiv, a nine-storey residential building was hit; CBS News, citing local officials, reported 43 people injured, including 11 children, while other outlets gave lower early figures as rescue work continued.

A week of heavy bombardment

On Sunday, attacks killed three people in Sumy, among them a 16-year-old girl, as well as three in Zaporizhzhia and one each in Odesa and Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had launched more than 2,200 drones, about 1,630 glide bombs and 38 missiles at Ukraine over the past week, and renewed calls for more air-defence systems from partners. Our earlier piece on the intensifying air war gives background.

Ukraine strikes back at energy sites

Ukraine, for its part, said its drones hit the Pavlovskaya oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar region, continuing a campaign against Russian fuel infrastructure. Moscow did not immediately comment on the specific claims. Full casualty details are available from CBS News. Figures may change as authorities update their counts.
