The Delhi High Court on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, issued notice to actor Salman Khan in the Salman Khan Kala Hiran dispute, asking him to respond to producer Amit Jani’s application to put the actor’s suit against the proposed film on hold. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani listed the matter for the next hearing on 16 December.
Producer says the same dispute is already in court
Jani is the producer of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, a proposed film the parties have linked to the 1998 blackbuck case involving Khan. His counsel argued that the actor had sought the same relief in an earlier suit that is still pending, and that the newer case should wait until that one is decided. “They have moved identical prayers in the previous suit,” the counsel told the court, ANI reported.
According to the application, Khan won an ex-parte interim order protecting his personality rights on 11 December 2025, and a separate request for an injunction aimed specifically at the film is still pending. The producer says the relief sought now, stopping the film’s release and its teasers, is substantially the same.
Khan’s lawyer to file a reply
Senior advocate Ravi Prakash, appearing for Khan, said he would file a reply. He told the court the original suit was about the actor’s personality rights, and that a film based on an incident from Khan’s life was announced after the court ruled in his favour.
Background to the Salman Khan Kala Hiran row
In July, the high court ordered online platforms to remove the Kala Hiran teaser and related posts, holding that the makers could not commercially use the 60-year-old actor’s name, mannerisms or distinctive traits without his consent. Khan has objected to the film’s poster, released on 29 May, which he says shows a character resembling him holding a gun and wearing his trademark bracelet. The makers say the film is not a biopic. At an earlier hearing, the producer’s counsel said the film was not ready and would need certification before any theatrical release.
