Kalika Patrolling: Bhajanlal Sharma flags off 100 new units, announces travel allowance

Kalika Patrolling got 100 new units in Rajasthan on 18 October 2026, when Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma flagged them off at the Constitution Club in Jaipur during Navratra, the state’s DIPR said. He also announced a fixed monthly travel allowance for unit personnel. The chief minister said crimes against women in 2026 were about 48 per cent lower than in 2023 under the state’s zero tolerance policy.

What the Kalika Patrolling launch announced

The travel allowance will match the one paid to constables, head constables and assistant sub-inspectors posted at police stations and outposts, the release said. Sharma said the units exist not only to act after a crime but to prevent it, make anti-social elements fear the law and give women a sense of safety. He was speaking at an interaction with the new units and women members of Youth Community Liaison Groups (CLGs). Unit personnel and Youth CLG members from across the state joined by video conference and shared suggestions before the flag-off. Women’s safety, he said, is not only a law-and-order issue but a question of dignity, freedom, self-confidence and equal opportunity.

About 50 lakh women and girls have been made aware of the law, more than 18 lakh sensitised on cyber safety, and more than 16.70 lakh given self-defence training, according to figures he cited. Helpline 1090, Suraksha Sakhis and community policing

The chief minister said 65 Anti-Romeo Squads work to prevent harassment in public places, and more than 28,000 complaints have been resolved through women’s helpline 1090 in just under three years. Around 22,000 Suraksha Sakhis have been chosen to tell women about their rights, and more than 12,500 CCTV cameras have been installed through the Abhay Command and Control Centre. Over 2.60 lakh people are part of community policing, including more than 84,000 Youth CLG members, 83,000 CLG members, 40,000 Police Mitras and 29,000 Gram Rakshaks. Sharma ordered regular meetings of these groups at police stations, and patrolling at schools, colleges, markets, transport hubs and workplaces. Jaipur MP Manju Sharma, Mayor Sunil Kothari, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma attended.

Why It Matters: Expanding women-led patrol units and funding their mobility is meant to make prevention visible in public spaces across Rajasthan.
