Milawat Par Vaar: Jaipur food safety team seizes 2,699 kg bakery shortening, 520 kg paneer destroyed

Update: TrendDesh covered this campaign's Flipkart Minutes dark store inspection on 14 Oct. This story adds the new seizures of 16-17 Oct.

The Milawat Par Vaar drive against food adulteration in Rajasthan has led to the seizure of 2,699.2 kg of bakery shortening at a manufacturing plant in Jaipur’s Jhotwara, the Medical and Health Department said on 17 October 2026. The action, part of the state’s ‘Shuddh Aahar – Milawat Par Vaar’ campaign, came a day after food safety teams destroyed 520 kg of paneer at a dairy in Raja Park. Officials say checks will continue through the festive season to keep unsafe food out of Diwali markets.

What the Milawat Par Vaar team found in Jhotwara

The state’s central food safety team inspected the plant of M/s SK Enterprises in Jhotwara. According to the department, products were being made and sold under the name ‘bakery shortening’ under several brands. The department has started an inquiry into the nature of the product, its labelling and whether it meets food safety standards, and samples were taken. The seized stock, which was ready for sale in the market, cannot be sold until the probe is complete. The department said further action would be taken under the rules on the basis of the findings. No lab result had been announced at the time of the release.

Paneer destroyed and samples taken across Jaipur

On 16 October, the central team and the Jaipur I and Jaipur II teams inspected food businesses in the city and nearby industrial areas. At two outlets of a dairy in Raja Park and its godown in Vivekanand Colony, 520 kg of paneer was destroyed on the spot and two paneer samples were taken; the department said action would follow because the godown had no food licence. A team found poor hygiene at a mishri unit in Bassi’s Hirawala industrial area, where staff were not using caps and aprons. Samples of mishri, white bread, pav, namkeen bhujia, palm oil, dry fruits, milk, milk cake and mawa sweets were also collected from other units.

How the food safety campaign is run

The drive is being carried out under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar, with direction from Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore and Food Safety Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi. Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh said violations hidden behind a product’s name or label would not be tolerated, and that action would continue to make safe, quality food available to people. Inspections and sampling will go on during the festivals, the department said. The department said further action would be taken under the rules on the basis of the investigation, and inspections and sampling will continue through the festival season.

Why It Matters: Demand for paneer, mawa and fats peaks before Diwali, and that is when adulterated or mislabelled food is most likely to reach homes.
