What the Alwar Tiger Marathon launch put on record

Sharma said the website was launched now so that as many young people as possible register and help make the race a success. He said the international-level marathon held last year had drawn more than 22,000 runners and given Alwar recognition abroad. Around the race, he announced, the Rajasthan Forest Department will hold an Alwar Bird Festival on 6 February 2027. An Alwar Tiger Festival will run from 6 to 8 February, along the lines of the Jaipur Tiger Festival, and a forest fair will be held on 6 and 7 February.

Sharma credited Union Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav, the Alwar MP, for driving the district’s development. He said more than 100 e-libraries have been set up in urban and rural areas so students in remote places get better study facilities. He said the Alwar Sansad Khel Utsav was started, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to give young people in villages and towns a sports platform. He also appealed to the city’s residents and prominent citizens to help keep Alwar clean and beautiful. Saras Dairy chairman Nitin Sangwan, Deputy Mayor Ajay Punia and other prominent citizens were among those present.

Why a tiger-branded marathon matters for Alwar

Mayor Agarwal said sport builds physical and mental health, and that the marathon has become a way for athletes to show their talent. She thanked Bhupender Yadav for giving Alwar the platform and said the marathon had put the city on the world map. Now, she said, residents share the job of making Alwar a leader in cleanliness too. She urged people to register in the largest possible numbers for the 7 February race. Alwar district is home to the Sariska Tiger Reserve, which gives the race its tiger theme. Sariska lost its tigers in the early 2000s and in 2008 became the first reserve in India to receive tigers relocated from another park, Ranthambore. The race falls on a Sunday, and the bird festival, tiger festival and forest fair planned around it put the forest department alongside the sporting event for the whole weekend.

Why It Matters: An early website launch gives runners time to train and register while branding Alwar as a fitness and wildlife destination.
