Rajasthan journalist housing scheme launched: Rs 15 lakh off 3-BHK flats in Jaipur’s Jagatpura

A journalist housing scheme for accredited reporters in Rajasthan was launched by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan in Jaipur on Saturday, 17 October 2026, the state’s information department (DIPR) said. The flats are being offered under the Rajasthan Housing Board’s Vishisht Panjikaran Yojana-2026. At the event the Chief Minister announced a special discount of Rs 15 lakh on the total cost of a 3-BHK flat and Rs 12 lakh on a 2-BHK flat in the first phase.

Sharma said the state budget had promised housing for accredited journalists, and registration for flats has started under the Indira Gandhi Nagar Housing Scheme in Sector 9, Jagatpura, Jaipur. The multi-storey project will provide flats with all basic amenities and a safe residential setting, DIPR said. The Chief Minister said housing schemes for journalists would also be brought to other divisions in phases. He also announced a new housing scheme in the satellite city being developed near Poonchhari Ka Lautha in Bharatpur. Sharma, who spoke about his own past work in journalism, said he understands the problems journalists face.

What the state says it has done for accredited journalists

The Chief Minister listed several welfare steps taken in just under three years. Age and experience rules for accrediting freelance journalists were relaxed, with the minimum age set at 45 years and experience at 15 years, which he said benefited 31 press representatives. Children of accredited journalists received 43 scholarships. Under the Rajasthan Journalist Health Scheme (RJHS), Rs 2.15 crore was paid in insurance premiums for 1,423 insured journalists. Under the Senior Accredited Journalists’ Samman Yojana, 462 beneficiaries were honoured, and 24 journalists and dependants got help from the Journalists and Litterateurs Welfare Fund. Urban Development and Housing Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra said registration for the flats had begun as part of implementing the budget promise. MP Manju Sharma and Jaipur Mayor Sunil Kothari were also present.

Bhajan Lal Sharma on jobs, water and the refinery

Sharma used the event to set out his government’s record. He said more than 410 recruitment examinations had been held without paper leaks, 1.93 lakh government appointments had been made, and recruitment for 1.18 lakh more posts was under way. He said projects worth over Rs 9 lakh crore from the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit had moved to implementation, and that the Rs 80,000 crore refinery and petrochemical project would open up opportunities for small and large industries. He also cited inter-state water projects, including the Ram Jal Setu Link Project and the Yamuna water agreement. These figures are the Chief Minister’s own claims, as reported by DIPR.

Why It Matters: Home prices in Jaipur are out of reach for many working journalists, and a fixed discount on Housing Board flats makes ownership possible for those who are accredited.
