A much-hyped Ramayana promotional event in Mumbai on Sunday turned into a public-relations headache after it began roughly four hours late, prompting several journalists to walk out and producer Namit Malhotra to apologise.

What went wrong
The press gathering was scheduled for 1:30 pm, but reporters said they received no schedule updates for more than two hours. The delay was later attributed to international YouTuber MrBeast, who was part of the event, reportedly missing a private flight. When journalists complained, the publicity team reportedly told them they were free to leave. Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram, was heard saying that those who wanted to leave could go, remarks that quickly drew criticism online.
A ten-minute session, no announcements
The on-stage segment, planned for an hour, wrapped up in about ten minutes with no project announcements. Kapoor symbolically lifted a prop Shiv Dhanush and interacted with MrBeast, while director Nitesh Tiwari and actors Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey also attended. Malhotra later apologised to the media for the delay.
Why it matters
Ramayana is one of Indian cinema’s most expensive and closely watched projects. The two-part adaptation stars Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, with Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and features music by Hans Zimmer and A R Rahman. Part one is slated for Diwali 2026, so the film is entering its most intense marketing phase, and the MrBeast tie-up signals an aggressive push for global audiences. A stumble with the Indian press at this stage shows the risk of chasing international buzz at the cost of local media relations. Malhotra has previously spoken about taking the film to ScreenX and 4DX formats.
