IND vs WI 2nd T20I: India eye 2-0 lead in Ranchi after Shreyas Iyer’s maiden hundred

The IND vs WI 2nd T20I will be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday, 9 October 2026, at 7 pm IST, with India leading the five-match series 1-0. On Thursday, 8 October, the hosts trained in Ranchi after captain Shreyas Iyer’s maiden T20I hundred set up an eight-wicket win in the opener, Cricbuzz and The Hindu reported.

How India won the first T20I

In Lucknow on Tuesday, West Indies were bowled out for 171 in 19.1 overs. Sherfane Rutherford made 56 and Shai Hope 52, but debutant off-spinner Naman Dhir took 3 for 31, with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav picking up two wickets each.

India slipped to 35 for 2 in the chase before Iyer took charge. He hit an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, with 10 fours and six sixes, and added an unbroken 137 with Ishan Kishan (37 not out). India reached the target in just 14.4 overs, their tenth successive T20I win, according to Cricbuzz.

IND vs WI 2nd T20I: what to watch in Ranchi

Teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi drew attention with an explosive net session in Ranchi on Thursday, India Today reported. The Hindu noted that West Indies bat deep, having rallied from 135 for 8 to 171 in Lucknow, but their medium-pace attack of Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde and Shamar Springer offered little threat.

India’s last T20I defeat came against England in Southampton on 11 July 2026, The Hindu noted. Ranchi has not hosted a night T20I since January 2023, and the forecast is mild with the odd shower that should not hold up play, ESPNcricinfo said.

The match also comes as Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as India’s chief selector has ended, the ICC said this week.

Why it matters

A win in Ranchi would put India 2-0 up with three games left and extend their T20I winning run, while West Indies need a quick response to keep the series alive.

This is a preview. The match had not started at the time of publishing.
