WHO Ukraine warehouses hit four times since July, destroying $1.5 million of medicines

Update: TrendDesh reported attacks on Kharkiv and Kyiv on 14 October. This report covers new WHO figures on strikes that destroyed medical supplies.

Russian strikes have hit WHO Ukraine warehouses four times since July, destroying more than $1.5 million worth of medicines and supplies, the World Health Organization said on 15 October 2026. Three of the four warehouses used by WHO were destroyed, UN News reported.

How many WHO Ukraine warehouses were hit

According to WHO, 21 warehouses have been targeted in Ukraine this year, out of a total of 400 incidents, almost all involving heavy weapons. ‘In just three months, four warehouses used by WHO were hit and three were destroyed,’ WHO communications officer Sarah Tyler told UN News. She said the health workers she met keep caring for patients under extraordinary pressure. WHO’s Europe office had earlier reported, on 4 September, that three WHO humanitarian warehouses were destroyed in three months. That earlier release said an attack in Dnipro had destroyed half of the supplies meant for an estimated 225,000 people in frontline and hard-to-reach areas. ‘When you stand in those places, you really understand what the numbers mean,’ Tyler said. The new figures bring the count up to date.

“Protecting health services means protecting the people who provide them.”

— Dr Ihor Perehinets, WHO Regional Emergency Director

Attacks on health care since 2022

WHO has verified more than 3,300 attacks on health care since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. A total of 247 people have been killed and more than 1,090 health workers and patients injured, according to its data. Dr Ihor Perehinets, WHO’s regional emergency director, said that when warehouses are hit, medicines, equipment, laboratory reagents and other supplies are lost, which disrupts care in hospitals. UN News said strikes overnight into Wednesday killed at least three people in Kyiv and left hundreds of thousands without power, despite an ‘energy ceasefire’ announced by US President Donald Trump.

Russian strikes, Zaporizhzhia and the WHO appeal

Over the weekend, an attack in Zaporizhzhia killed more than 20 people, including four children, UN News reported. The UN children’s agency UNICEF said the violence ‘must not become the new normal’. WHO’s support in Ukraine includes emergency response, trauma care, medical supplies, energy resilience, and preparation for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents. Its 2026 Ukraine appeal seeks $42 million to help 700,000 people. WHO said continued funding is needed to replace lost supplies and keep essential services running. In September, WHO’s representative in Ukraine, Dr Silviu Domente, said teams were spending time and money moving supplies from site to site to keep them safe, time that should go into delivering health care. The agency did not name the locations of all four warehouses in its latest update. Every figure here comes from WHO and its officials, as reported by UN News.

Why It Matters: Each destroyed warehouse means hospitals run short of medicines and equipment at a time when air strikes keep adding to the number of wounded.
