India Post started its 24 Speed Post Document Service in Ahmedabad on 15 October 2026, the last day of National Postal Week. Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav launched it at Ahmedabad GPO. Eligible documents booked there will be delivered within 24 hours to chosen PIN codes in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.

How the 24 Speed Post guarantee works

The main promise is delivery by the next day. If an article is delayed or lost, the full postage is refunded, according to the Department of Posts’ release. Deliveries will also be made on Sundays and public holidays. Senior Postmaster Manjulaben Patel said the service accepts documents of up to 500 grams, such as PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards, passports, driving licences and bank papers. Senders must write full addresses and give the mobile numbers of both sender and receiver. The tariff is different from regular Speed Post. Divya Bhaskar reported that the department first ran the service as a pilot on the Ahmedabad to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane route. Gujarat Samachar reported that the first customer, Bhavika Mangukiya, booked an article to Thane.

Features include OTP-based delivery, end-to-end tracking with SMS alerts, a buy-now-pay-later option for businesses, free pickup for bulk bookings, API integration and central billing. India Post's push into next-day delivery

India Post began Speed Post on 1 August 1986. On 17 March 2026 it launched 24 Speed Post, 24 Speed Post Parcel and 48 Speed Post in six metros: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Ahmedabad has now been added for the document service. Gujarat Samachar and VNI News both reported the launch and its refund promise. The department has not yet said when booking from Ahmedabad to other cities will start, or published the full price list for the route. For now, the guarantee applies only to the PIN codes that the department has listed in the three Maharashtra cities. Patel said special mailbags, packaging, priority stickers and barcode labels have been arranged for the service. Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Shishir Kumar and other postal officials attended the launch.

Why It Matters: A money-back next-day promise gives people and small firms a cheaper, government-backed choice for urgent papers such as passports and bank documents.
