Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha gets Rs 1.06 crore under vehicle surveillance system at three gates

Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha Speaker Vasudev Devnani inaugurated an under vehicle surveillance system (UVSS) at the Assembly complex in Jaipur on 15 October 2026 by pressing a remote button. The system was installed along the lines of the one at the Lok Sabha Secretariat and cost Rs 1.06 crore, according to the Assembly’s release.

How the under vehicle surveillance system works

UVSS is a vehicle inspection system that takes pictures of the underside of a car or truck, a part that is hard to see directly. It uses special cameras, image-capture equipment, lighting, display screens and software to view and analyse the images, Devnani said. This lets security staff check parts that a normal search might miss, and makes vehicle checks more systematic. The system can store vehicle images, check details and entry records, so they can be reviewed later if needed. It can also be used with other security equipment and surveillance systems at the entry gates, according to the release.

Key Facts

  • Launch: 15 Oct 2026, Rajasthan Assembly, Jaipur
  • System: under vehicle surveillance system (UVSS)

The system works with boom barriers and has been set up at gates 6, 7 and 8 of the Assembly. Devnani said the safety of legislators, officers, staff and visitors at a key constitutional institution is the top priority. He said lawmakers, officials and visitors move in and out during the House’s proceedings, so proper checks of every vehicle entering the complex are an important part of security. Khaskhabar and First India News also reported the launch, the cost and the gates. Devnani also inspected an upgraded wireless set system at the Assembly during the visit. ETV Bharat said the scanner will help security staff get a clear view and identify suspicious objects.

Speaker's security upgrades and other remarks

Assembly Principal Secretary Bharat Bhushan Sharma and special assistant K K Sharma were present with other officers and staff. The Assembly’s release called the UVSS another innovation started on the Speaker’s initiative. ETV Bharat and Patrika reported that on the same day Devnani also sought information from the Director General of Police on the death of former MLA Atar Singh Bhadana and the assault on an RSS pracharak, and said strict action should be taken against criminals. ETV Bharat reported that Bhadana died during treatment in Jaipur after a violent attack at a crusher in Vair, Bharatpur. The release did not say whether similar scanners will be added at other government buildings in Jaipur. The official release from DIPR sets out the cost, the gates covered and the officials who were present at the inspection.

Why It Matters: Scanning the underside of every vehicle closes a common gap in security checks at a building where the state's lawmakers meet.
