Ranthambore Tiger Reserve: collector orders CCTV, joint patrols and FIRs to stop illegal mining

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve will get tighter protection after an empowered committee in Sawai Madhopur ordered strict action against encroachment, illegal construction and illegal mining around the park, the state’s Information and Public Relations Department said on 16 October 2026. The committee, chaired by District Collector Kana Ram, keeps watch on activities in and around the forest.

What the panel ordered for Ranthambore Tiger Reserve

At Friday’s meeting, the collector told departments to review pending cases linked to forest and wildlife protection and act on them within a fixed time, as per the rules. He asked them to strengthen monitoring at sensitive forest sites with CCTV cameras, and to ensure joint action by police, forest and transport departments at the Amreshwar and Sherpur check posts so that illegal mining and the transport of mined material can be stopped. Officials were also told to examine the records of illegal construction and commercial activity near the reserve’s boundary and to take action under the rules.

Key Facts

  • Meeting: empowered committee, Sawai Madhopur, 16 Oct 2026
  • Chair: District Collector Kana Ram
  • Check posts: Amreshwar and Sherpur (joint police, forest, transport action)
  • Orders: CCTV at sensitive sites, FIRs against mining vehicles
  • Target: vehicles without number plates or registration

Action against illegal mining vehicles

The collector directed officials to identify vehicles used for illegal mining, act against them, register FIRs in such cases and share details of the action with the departments concerned. He told them to be strict with tractor-trolleys, dumpers and other vehicles that run without number plates, and to stop vehicles that operate without registration or the required identification. He asked forest, police and transport teams to make joint patrols more effective to control encroachment and prevent illegal activity. Monitoring in sensitive areas must be reviewed regularly, with technology used to protect the forest, and every case must be tracked until it is closed.

Who attended and why wildlife protection matters

Deputy Conservator of Forests Manav Singh, Chief Executive Officer Mohit Kasania, DoIT Joint Director Pankaj Meena, Deputy Director of Tourism Madhusudan Singh, Tehsildar Rakesh Meena and Additional Superintendent of Police Satish Verma attended, along with officials of the transport and IT departments. The meeting follows similar orders across eastern Rajasthan, where illegal mining near protected areas has been a long-running concern. Ranthambore is one of India’s best-known tiger reserves and a major draw for tourists in Sawai Madhopur, so encroachment and mining near its edges threaten both wildlife and the local economy that depends on safari tourism. Earlier this month, a review in Sawai Madhopur chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Anand Kumar had ordered similar steps, including FIRs against illegal mining vehicles and CCTV at sensitive forest sites, NewKerala and The Hawk reported. Friday’s meeting turned those directions into specific tasks for each department.

Why It Matters: Mining and building near the reserve break up tiger habitat and corridors, so firm local enforcement is key to keeping the park safe.
