What observers must do in the Rajasthan panchayat election

Singh said panchayat and zila parishad elections are a key part of democracy, so observers must work with sensitivity, impartiality and accountability. He asked them to finish all preparations on time, make sure the model code of conduct is followed and ensure voting at every polling station is transparent, peaceful and free of fear. Observers were told to pay special attention to sensitive polling stations and make regular field visits so that every voter can vote without fear. He said observers must stay alert throughout and carry out their duties with full care. He also asked them to watch the deposit of weapons as per the rules, keep an eye on people who try to intimidate voters and support SVEEP voter awareness activities.

Key Facts

Code violations and spending limits

Any breach of the model code of conduct must first be reported to the district election officer and, where needed, taken up to a higher level, Singh said. Observers must also keep a close watch so that candidates do not cross the spending limit. Trainers at the workshop explained the poll schedule, each stage of the process and the reporting rules. They told observers that they will have a role at every step, from the dispatch of polling parties to voting, counting and the declaration of results, and explained the formats and timing of the reports they must send. The commissioner warned that no negligence would be accepted in the election work.

Rajasthan panchayat chunav 2026 schedule

The State Election Commission has announced that the panchayat and zila parishad polls will be held in four phases, starting on 23 October, The Hindu and Business Standard reported when the schedule was released. Across the state, district administrations are running voter awareness drives, rallies and training sessions for polling staff ahead of the first phase. Dainik Bhaskar also carried the commissioner’s guidelines to observers. Voters can check phase dates, their polling station and candidate lists for their area on the State Election Commission’s website. The large number of seats means the polls will decide village, block and district leadership across Rajasthan for the next five years.

Why It Matters: Panchayat and zila parishad members run local schemes for roads, water and welfare, so these polls shape services in every village of the state.
