CEC row: INDIA bloc petitions President, government rejects claims

The CEC row reached Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. An INDIA bloc delegation gave President Droupadi Murmu a memorandum, The Hindu reported. It seeks the repeal of Assembly elections held over the last two years. Government sources later rejected Rahul Gandhi’s account of the meeting.

Demands in the CEC row memorandum

The memorandum sought Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. It alleged 13.30 crore illegal deletions in the Special Intensive Revision. It also sought a return to paper ballots.

The meeting

India Today reported that a 10-member delegation met the President for nearly an hour. Rahul Gandhi said the President had asked for evidence and would examine the matter.

Government sources said Gandhi’s claims were incorrect, India Today reported. They specifically rejected his assertion that the President had accepted the allegations.

Why It Matters: The dispute over the electoral process has now been placed before the head of state.
